The RED HOT REDS At Never Done Ranch

07/15/07

Our red herd started in 1997 when we bought our first solid red percentage goat from Rodney Robinson of Lone Star Boer Goats. He had imported a fullblood red buck named Gideon from New Zealand.  The doe was thick, long and wild as the wind.  As long as we had her, she never calmed down.  She was our first RED HOT RED.  The reds were not really acceptable before 2003, they were slaughtered at birth or sold for meat,  but we liked the reds and decided to have a few in the herd.

As time progressed, we got more interested in the reds but were still raising the traditional colored fullblood boers on the advice of many of the original breeders.  One morning while feeding the weanlings, Judy said that she was sick at looking at the traditional goats and she was getting some reds in the herd.  Said if no-one would buy them - she would eat them!

So we jumped feet first into the red fullblood boer goats.

We have put together a diverse set of genetics  in our red herd and most of our red does are full south african and born in the USA. Over the years Dennis has traveled far and wide to bring these reds back to the Never Done Ranch and improve the herd. For the last two years we have concentrated on locating and purchasing the one or two best colored does available throughout the country.  We feel that although we don't personally show, many of our reds can rival the traditional goats in the show ring.

Here are some pictures of our foundation does and their offspring - the NDR RED HOT RED Does that weren't accidents - they were bred for color!

This is LSBG 548-SA - Her registered name is Lady Luck but around here she is known as Tank! She is the dam or Grand Dam of many of our reds and many others that we have sold around the country.  She is packed top and bottom with show winning genetics. Her dam is LSBG Kijana (1996 ABGA National Grand Champion), her sire is Turu (1997 ABGA Reserve National Champion and his sire is Tabu Ennobled 1997 ABGA National Grand Champion). She was naturally  bred to Eggstra Chrome, our paint son of Ennobled Cannon, and had an outstanding buck kid.  As you will see, her offspring are getting the job done!

These are Tank's first offspring Lady Luck's Poker SA and Lady Luck's Keno SA.  They are sired by G-49, the 1996 ABGA Reserve National Champion.

This is one of Tank's triplets from 2003 Lady Luck's Red Heart SA.She has lots of bone, mass, and breed character. Her sire is Red Eggscursion, a solid red son of Eggstreme (Ennobled).

This is Poker's first offspring,  Poker's Chip, sired by Tabasco and born in 2003.

This is Poker's second offspring, Poker's Checkers SA, a triplet. She is sired by Red Eggscursion, a son of Eggstreme and born in 2004.

This is Poker's Painted Queen SA, a triplet. She was born in 2005 and her sire is Osirus.

Introducing the newest additions to the Lady Luck offspring

These doelings are Tank's natural kids from 2006, JackPot and Bet on Red!

As you can see, we rely heavily on Tank and her offspring.  Her kids are consistent in size and growth and she and her offspring consistently produce reds and paints with the body type we are looking for in our herd.

This is NDR Dancer SA.  She is an offspring of Osirus and DLTR Christmas and is a twin doe.  She is here with a bunch of her buddies.

This is a Scorpio daughter OB 418 SA. We purchased her and her flushmate, seen below, from Outback Boers to add some of those genetics to our red herd.  They are both wide and thick with lots of body mass.

In 2004, we traveled to Kentucky to buy a red doe out of the Sudderth's herd of Bodacious Boers.  She is a daughter of Bodacious Simba, the 2001 IBGA National Champion Junior Buck.  She is a pretty darn nice red and has the excellent breed character that we were looking for.  Dennis said she has the best head he has seen on a red.

In 2005, we purchased a DER War Paint daughter from Double Oak Farms in Clebourne, Texas to infuse some other genetics into the herd.  This little girl is wide and thick and carries all the best breed character from War Paint. We bred her to a black buck the first time, and were we ever surprised when she had quads. two solid blacks, a black and white paint and a black headed. We hoped history would repeat itself so in 2006 we bred her to Night Rider and she had triplets - A solid black buck, a solid black doe, and a loud black paint buck.

In 2004, we had purchased several offspring of Scorpio from Outback Boers.  We were very impressed with the quality of these genetics and  when T-4 held their annual sale, Dennis traveled to Sonora TX to pick up T-4 Austin.  He was a young buck kid out of P/H 207P and sired by Scorpio.  When Dennis laid eyes on 207P, he fell in love.  Every time he spoke about Austin, he mentioned how beautiful his dam was.

In 2005, when he read that T-4 was dispersing the herd, he squirreled away every penny he could with the intention of attending the sale and bringing 207P home.  When the sale was publicized he saw another red doe and he made up his mind, that she would also have to become part of our breeding program.  This was a doe that Mr. and Mrs. Whitehead had imported out of Australia as a live import with the sole purpose to flush her to Scorpio - her name was Mahadid.

On sale day, the anticipation at home was unbearable. You see, Dennis was in Sonora Tx. and I was in Deridder La watching DV Auction.  I knew that if he could not bring home these two does, he would be crushed.  To make a long story short, he purchased Mahadid and, with the help of 4R Boer Goats, was able to bring 207P home also. Dennis took a gamble and purchased straws of Scorpio semen at the sale to enhance our program.

To fulfill Carolyn's dream of breeding Mahadid to Scorpio, we will be doing a flush with AI in late August 2007 using some of this semen.
